Subject: Thule 936xt
Question: I am looking to purchase a bike rack. I had the one that you attach to the trunk; however, I do not want to scratch up my car, so was looking to find something that is detached from my car.

I was looking at the Thule 936xt. It talks about the anti-sway 955 and bike lock 538. Do I need both? Or will just the anti-sway 955 do? Please advise.

Thanks.

What an incredible question! I'm happy to share my opinion. Firstly - good on ya for choosing the 936xt, I think hitch racks are the way to go as they are protected and out of the wind for best gas mileage. Secondly - I think the bike lock is a must as you'll want to be able to walk away from the car from time to time with the comfort knowing that they are at least locked in some fashion. Lastly - I'd hold off on the anti sway addon. I think you'll probably want to use an extra bungie or long rag to secure the bike anyway -even if you had the antisway and that bungie/rag will do the securing job nicely.
