This one's a snap (no pun intended) - A good long warm up is so important and so often over looked. No matter what the temperature is, a warm up should be at least 7 minutes if not 10 and should start at a very easy pace and build slowly to a moderate pace. If we are talking swim then the minimum should be 400 yards if you are going to do drills after the warm up (and you should) and 600-800 yards if you are going into a main set after warm up. For the run it should be a slow jog that becomes a slow run then a run - all stretched over a mile. If it's a bike then you should be in an easy gear (39x17 or easier) on flat and at a low heart rate - slowly building with cadence first then with speed & power. If the weather is cold but your body is warm then the warm can be the same as hot weather but if you stumble in to starting a workout chilled then extend the warm up unitl you have a good sweat going.
