The Culture of True North Technologies

When you think of a brand, you think of their logo first.
What do you see when I say Nike? What about Starbucks? Facebook? I bet you saw a flash of their logo in your mind’s eye as soon as you saw those names. It’s only natural—human brains are little linguists and will eagerly attach an image to a sound (i.e. a brand name) in order to better categorize it. That’s why having a logo that accurately represents your business is crucial to becoming a trusted brand.

But what does it mean to have a logo that accurately represents your business? Essentially, that means having a logo that’s both simple and tells your company’s story at a glance. So before hiring a team to draft your logo for you, it’s important that you think about who you are as a company and what symbols, themes, and statements encapsulate your identity.

First, define who you are.
Getting customers is a little like speed dating. People will swipe right or left on your company depending on your logo, so it’s very important your logo radiates the right energy. Is your company serious or silly? Professional or laid-back? What products or services do you provide? What feelings or moods do you want to be associated with? People will make snap judgments about your company’s values and products based solely on the colors, shapes, and fonts in your logo. Is your logo round and pink? People might assume your company’s personality is soft, fun, and trendy. Is your logo square and black? That’s going to make people feel like your company is serious, solid, and professional. If you’re not sure yet how you want to be seen by others, it might be good to first create a mood board before drafting any logo designs. That way you can be sure the logo you choose is going to match with your company’s personality perfectly.

At True North, our logo tells our story.
Our logo at True North Technologies tells our entire story at a glance: It’s a compass, surrounded by HTML brackets. We want our clients to know that we’ll help them stay on track and true to themselves in their own businesses. By helping companies with their online presence, we can help them secure their own ‘true north’ -- their fixed point that helps them stay true to who they are. Each part of our logo says something unique about what we do, and the added symbolism lets clients know exactly what we believe in.

HTML code
We design apps and websites. So, it makes sense for our logo start with the bracket symbols required at the beginning and end of HTML code. We specifically chose HTML brackets because True North begins and ends with helping our clients grow professionally. The brackets symbolize the website and app development that our team does along with being dedicated to our clients from the project start to finish.
Compass
Inside of the brackets, we placed a compass because we are our client’s guide throughout the entire process. We lead our clients safely through the turbulent seas of internet marketing, navigate them through telling their story authentically, and get them found by customers. We direct our clients’ customers to their websites and apps through our SEO and digital marketing services. Then with our strong Call to Action strategies, we lead our client’s customers to DO something.
Location Pin
Above our compass, we placed a location pin. This represents helping our clients stand out among the busy digital space. We are dedicated to putting our clients on the map because we know that visibility is key to business growth. We do this through one-click directions, calling features, geo-fenced push notifications, and more.

Water Droplet
Underneath our compass, we placed a water droplet. We are a fluid company that adapts to ever-changing markets and technology. We keep our clients up to date on the latest trends and how to stay competitive.
Collaboration
If you look at our logo as though you were floating overhead, you can see two people with their arms outstretched holding hands. We pride ourselves in the collaborative partnership we have with each of our clients. We promise to walk with our clients every step of the way to ensure the end product is exactly what they need.
Colors
Even our colors speak to who we are. Not only are pink, green, and navy the colors of the Northern Lights, but they’re also imaginative and friendly colors. We like to have fun while working hard, and our cheery colors show that.

It’s not just in the logo, either. We’ve pretty much integrated our symbolism into everything we do. We’ve even crafted the names of our internal departments after the names of significant constellations: Aquila (our sales department), Caelum (our marketing), and Orion (projects). We incorporate our story into everything so that we truly embody those ideals and can easily let others know what we’re about. Our logo is just the beginning of getting to know us!
