In 2016, I read an article about Discovering Your True North. It asked, “Are you all you want to be? Do you have a path to fulfilling your dreams?” True North is your fixed point in a spinning world that helps you stay on track and stay true to who you are. It’s derived from your most deeply held beliefs, values, and principles. It is your internal compass, unique to you, representing who you are at your deepest level.
I grew up in West Point, NE. It’s a small town with strong local business. My entire family owns small businesses: a farm, pharmacy, rental business, lumberyard and construction company. I've always wanted to own my own business, but I didn't know what kind of business. After graduating from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, I took the traditional route. I worked for some amazing companies, but it wasn't enough.
The concept of making all of my decisions based on my values has stayed with me. When my dad died a few years ago, it really made me think about life. “Was I really doing what I wanted to be doing? Am I fulfilled?” The answer was no. I was selling myself short, and I knew it. It brought me back to finding my True North and living each day with my values of Growth, Family and Honesty.
Then it happened. I found an affordable way to develop mobile apps and help small to medium sized businesses compete, and True North Technologies was born. I knew I had to take a leap of faith and "grow my wings on the way down" if this little dream had any chance of surviving. We've added product lines, and we are really giving people the tools they need to thrive.

LIBA recently held their annual Free Enterprise Convention on April 29th of 2021 at the Hilton Embassy Suites. Many business owners were recognized at this event by fellow colleagues, advocates, and LIBA’s Board of Directors.
True North Technologies Founder and CEO Renee Sobotka was among the select few independent business owners nominated for distinction. Ultimately, LIBA’s Board of Directors decided to recognize Renee as 2021 Enterprising Gambler for her outstanding business success throughout the uncertain year of 2020 and beyond.
Renee is overwhelmed by the support of those who have sacrificed time from their busy schedules to celebrate her team’s efforts. While it’s definitely nice to be recognized, Renee would like to also acknowledge the countless business owners who are constantly sticking their necks out by taking risks and confronting challenges head on. “Nobody makes it on their own, and we’re not really in competition with anyone,” she proudly declares. “An abundance mindset is important. There is plenty of business for everyone.”
Renee attributes her continued success to her long list of coaches, advocates, and hard-working team members. She feels extremely grateful and humbled to receive this award, and she would like to personally thank LIBA for their constant support.
Our team feels extremely lucky to grow and pursue our goals together alongside such an inspiring individual like Renee. She pushes us to be the best versions of ourselves, leading by example each and every day.
